1. Introduction

CUHK <-> CSL/Y5ZONE/Eduroam Wi-Fi Hotspot Partnership Programme (named as Wi-Fi network below) is a partnership programme between The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the two commercial internet service providers (CSL and Y5ZONE) and Eduroam. By registering to the programme, staff and students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong can have the access to the Internet at hotspots in all sister institutions, 24-hour convenience stores, shopping malls in Hong Kong, and also education institutions over the world.

User/Users in this document refers to staff or students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong who is/are authorized to use the Wi-Fi network.

2. Terms and Conditions

2.1 Your use of Wi-Fi Network

2.1.1 Producing excessive network traffic such as broadcasting and sending massive messages and unsolicited emails is prohibited.

2.1.2 Setting up routing or other special network functions is prohibited.

2.1.3 Development of networking software in Wi-Fi network is prohibited.

2.1.4 Sharing of accounts is prohibited.

2.1.5 Users are responsible at all time for using the Wi-Fi network in a manner that is ethical, legal, and not to the detriment of others.

2.1.6 Users are responsible for the licenses of the software installed in their computer.

2.1.7 Users are responsible for any and all activities initiated from their computer.

2.1.8 Users of Wi-Fi network are governed by

2.1.9 Users should read the Best Practices For Accessing Public Wi-Fi Service and also take extra cautions when using the Wi-Fi service.

2.2 Limitation of Liability

2.2.1 CUHK will accept no liability whatsoever for any direct, incidental, consequential or indirect damages, loss or corruption of data, loss of profits, goodwill, bargain or opportunity or loss of anticipated savings or any other loss resulting from your access to, reliance on, or use of, or inability to use CSL/Y5ZONE/Eduroam Wi-Fi Hotspot Partnership Programme, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, negligence or any other legal theory, and whether or not the University knows of the possibility of such damage.

2.3 Maintenance

2.3.1 In case of severe network problem which arises from the user's computer and causes severe damage to the University, Wi-Fi network staff has the right to terminate the network connection of the user's computer without making prior notice.

2.3.2 The Wi-Fi network staff has the responsibility to provide advance notice on the availability of Wi-Fi network. However, in case of an emergent event, the Wi-Fi network staff has the right to shut down the whole or partial of Wi-Fi network with little or no advanced notification.

2.4 Personal Data

2.4.1 Private data of university members and students may be stored by CSL, Y5ZONE and Eduroam in Wi-Fi network.

2.5 Enforcement on Improper Use of Wi-Fi Network

2.5.1 Users of Wi-Fi network who improperly use Wi-Fi network as described in 2.1 of this document will result in temporary or permanent loss of the access privilege to Wi-Fi network. Offences which are in violation of law usually will result in immediate loss of access privilege of Wi-Fi network and will be reported to the appropriate University or law enforcement authorities.
